Across the Commonwealth, breweries and partners have stepped forward as “Pintriots,” proudly participating in the VA250 Craft Beer Commemorative Partnership Program. What was the first step for craft breweries to become “Pintriots?” By signing the Declaration of Beerdependence as this year’s VA250 celebrations approached.
So, what is the Declaration of Beerdependence?
As the declaration boldly states, these brewers “do solemnly declare…our unwavering commitment to celebrate 250 years of American independence with revolutionary flavor,” and affirm that among the unalienable rights of craft beer are “Independence, Community, and the Pursuit of Hoppiness.”
It’s a fitting reminder that history isn’t just something we read … it’s something we can experience, together. From colonial taverns to Revolutionary War gatherings, beer wasn’t just a beverage. It was a backdrop to the conversations, connections, and courage that shaped a new nation.
Enter the Pintriots
Beer has always been part of the American story, and local Pintriots appreciate the commemorative tagline, “America – Brewed in Virginia.” Beer lovers and history buffs alike can appreciate the flavors and shared experiences through associated storytelling.
Cask Ale at Southern Revere
At this year’s Jack Jouett Day Festival, Southern Revere Cellars (the host location) will offer a truly special experience: a small-batch cask ale crafted just for the occasion. Cask ale is as historic as it gets. Long before refrigeration, beer was stored in casks where it naturally fermented and conditioned in cool cellars. The result is a smooth, lightly carbonated beer with rich, layered flavors, served just as it would have been centuries ago.
While the cask ale may be the centerpiece of the historic beer experience at the celebration on June 6, Southern Revere will also be serving selections from their menu. Add in festivities, historical reenactments, and the story of Jack Jouett’s legendary ride, and you’ve got an event that blends heritage, hospitality, and a whole lot of local flavor.
