Legendary Steam Train Coming to Louisa

The famed N&W Class J 611 is coming to Louisa this summer, giving riders an opportunity to see how American railroads operated during the glorious days of steam! As a super-power locomotive, she is not just a machine, she is a living, breathing icon of American engineering. The engine is the official Steam Locomotive for the State of Virginia, is designated a National Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Tickets are expected to be released on April 15, 2026 through the Virginia Scenic Railway website. Coming for the July 4th weekend? Make plans to also participate in the Town of Louisa Fourth of July Celebration and Fireworks.

Parking information for the Town of Louisa will be available soon to accommodate passengers, Fourth of July eventgoers, and onlookers. For those viewing this living piece of history as it travels the tracks, we remind you that walking on railroad tracks is not only dangerous, but also illegal.
