The Project Application Process
Projects requiring public hearings will undergo the process steps listed below.
Find information on project applications below. Project information is updated periodically as a project proceeds through the various stages of review.
Project information may be archived 90 days after the BOS Hearing. However, information on projects in construction, to include who to contact with concerns, may be found in this project list.
The application process indicates the application has been submitted to Community Development. During this phase, staff assigns an application number and the application and attachments are then reviewed for completeness. Staff will notify the applicant if any additional documentation is required.
The applicant may desire to hold a Neighborhood/Community Meeting to answer questions, particularly for those with nearby property. In this stage, a Neighborhood Meeting has been scheduled and the application will be included in the next Neighborhood Meeting hosted at the Louisa County Administration Building in the Public Meeting Room. While County staff may assist, the meeting is hosted by the applicant.
In this phase, staff compiles a report with detailed information regarding the characteristics and details of the application, analysis of impacts, supporting information, as well as staff recommendations. This report will be provided to the Planning Commission. Ordinance amendments initiated by the County will not typically have a staff report.
Projects on this project list require two public hearings. At this stage, the first public hearing is scheduled at a Planning Commission (PC) meeting. At the PC hearing, staff will present the staff report, the applicant may address the PC, citizens may comment on the application, and the applicant will be allowed to respond to the comments made in the hearing. Following the public hearing, the PC will make a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors of approval or denial, or may defer action for up to 100 days to consider the application.
At this stage, a public hearing has been scheduled at a Board of Supervisors meeting. At the BOS hearing, the staff will present the project summary and recommendations of the PC and staff recommendations, the applicant may address the BOS, citizens may comment on the application, and the applicant will be allowed to respond to the comments made in the hearing. Following the hearing, the Board will approve or deny the application, or may defer action for up to 365 days to consider the application.
